Our Teachers – Rel

Rel at sewing machine

Rel grew up watching her Mum, Nola, sitting at a sewing machine! From Alterations to sample machining, there was no stopping Nola from sewing.

It was no surprise when Rel made her first electric blue corduroy matching jacket and knickerbocker ensemble to wear to the movies for her 12th birthday!

Rel followed her mother’s footsteps and went on to study fashion at East Sydney, one of the more prestigious colleges at the time.

Since finishing her studies, Rel has worked many years in fashion manufacturing, made herself and her friends many more brightly coloured party outfits, run her own label at a national wholesale level with a flagship store in Sydney, taught through the TAFE system, and now, owns her own fabric retail store with plans to start marketing her own dressmaking patterns!

Rel will be teaching basic cutting, sewing, personal fitting, and pattern alterations at Loom.

Our Teachers – Charlotte

Charlotte got into sewing as a teenager at school and knew it was a hobby she wanted to pursue. After school she completed her Cert 4 in Clothing Manufacture and Design at a small tailoring school in Sydney and then shortly afterward started the Fashion Design course at Tafe.
Charlotte moved to Bowral and opened Loom Fabrics in 2014 after she found out her real passion in the Fashion Industry lay in the fabric side of things. Throughout her time running the store, she had lots of time to create a mostly self-made wardrobe and also did alterations and dressmaking work for her customers. She would describe herself as a mostly self-taught sewer with a bit of ‘natural messiness’ being reigned in by a few of her technical sewing teachers over the years. Her favourite thing to do is to find perfect fabric/ project matches and to play with creative ways to finish garments off.
Sewing and design ideas are always in the front of her mind 🧵🧵
