Intro

STEP 1: WHAT SIZE?

  • Start from your biggest measurement, bust or hip, and choose the closest size.

  • Compare the pattern to a similar dress you already like.

  • Unsure of the fit
Make a quick test dress in scrap fabric before cutting your good fabric.

STEP 2: CUT IT OUT

  • Fold fabric so center front and center back sit on the fold where marked.

  • Place front, back, sleeves and facings close together to save fabric.

  • Cut all pieces, including facings and fusible, and clip notches.

STEP 3: SHOULDER TO SHOULDER

  • Sew front and back together at the shoulder seams.

  • Finish the seam allowances and press them toward the back.

STEP 4: NECKLINE MAGIC

  • Fuse interfacing to front and back facings, then sew their shoulder seams and neaten the outer edge.

  • Pin facings to the neckline right sides together, stitch, then clip curves and the V.

  • Press seam allowances toward the facings, understitch, turn to the inside, press and stitch in the ditch at shoulders.

STEP 5: GET IT TOGETHER

  • Sew side seams from underarm to hem, right sides together.

  • Finish the seam allowances and press them toward the back.

  • Snip slightly into the underarm seam allowance if you need more ease.

STEP 6: SLEEVES YOUR WAY

Cuff sleeve

  • Sew cuff into a ring, fold in half, pin to armhole, then sew and finish the seam.

  • Press and, if you like, understitch or stitch in the ditch so the cuff stays in place.

Simple cap sleeve

  • Work a narrow double fold hem around the armhole and stitch, easing carefully at the underarm.

STEP 7: TIE AND LOOPS

  • Sew a long strip into a flat tie by folding each long edge in and stitching.

  • Try the dress on, tie at your preferred height, and mark at each side seam.

  • Cut short pieces for belt loops and stitch top and bottom through the side seam and seam allowance.

STEP 8: HEM GAME

  • Decide your final length and trim if needed.

  • Press a double fold hem, then stitch close to the inner fold all the way around.

  • Give the dress a final press, thread the tie through the loops, and it is ready to wear.

You can come back again and again – pause, rewind, speed up. Learn It YOUR WAY in your own time, with your own soundtrack and your beverage and snacks  of choice 🤩🤩
